With such high concern amongst education professionals about how children and young people’s attention spans may be dwindling and focus can be lacking, we want to shout from the rooftops - ‘get them into dance classes’!
Dance classes offer an amazing antidote to screen based activities, which require low effort and give quick dopamine hits.
In contrast, dance requires discipline and hard work to achieve goals over time. There are no quick rewards in dance - it demands repetition and focus. This is fantastic for training your child to know the value of high effort and a sense of achievement over a longer period of time.
Through dance, children can work on their ‘frustration tolerance’ and persevere to gain longer term rewards. They also learn the importance of being punctual and prepared!

All of this sets them up for functioning well across their life as they grow up.
So many of our parents say that this is why they love dance as an extra curricular activity for their child, because they see these benefits in their child’s development.
