Year 3 to Year 6 Dance Classes in Worthing

About our Year 3 to Year 6 Classes

Somewhere between Yr3 and Yr6, students will take separate classes for Ballet, Modern and Tap (choosing either one, two or all three styles), although often in Yr3 and Yr4 we will continue to combine Ballet and Modern in one longer class.

At this age, students are ready to dive into each style in more depth and really enjoy the technical aspect of learning to dance, which means refining HOW they do a movement.  They will learn a greater number of set sequences and dance terminology, whilst still enjoying some improvisation and expressive exercises.

Ballet classes develop strength and a solid dance technique, understanding correct body placement, use of turn out in the legs, coordination of the upper body and arms (port de bras) and an appreciation of music.  Students learn barre exercises, then work on various jumps and other movements 'in the centre' and across the room.   This is an excellent style for developing transferable skills such as maintaining focus and attention to detail.

Modern dance defies definition but is best described as the various styles you might see in West End musicals.  This begins with developing natural movements into dance (walks, runs, jumps) and eventually into kicks, leaps and turns.  Classes are structured, with technical exercises developing into more complex dance sequences that cover various styles and opportunities for expression.

Tap classes provide students with a solid understanding of rhythm, using their body as an instrument to create rhythmic patterns. Tap is great fun, good exercise and excellent for developing concentration.

We follow the syllabus of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance mostly, with optional exams offered in Ballet and Tap where possible but not as the primary focus.

The teachers are great and are able to balance having fun in class with actually learning dance technique.

Grace Dance is A-MAZ-ING. Miss Fiona and the teachers have created such a supportive, nurturing, happy environment - seeing them with the children is like watching magic at work. Their enthusiasm and interest is infectious! Hard work is rewarded but there is no pressure to 'perform' - everything comes back to simply feeling the joy of dance. The sense of 'belonging' and genuine care, coupled with a quiet discipline and huge dollops of fun mean that my son has grown in confidence and positivity.

Do You Have A Question?

Yes, we offer a taster class before you choose to enrol.

You pay for one taster class (or several if trying various styles) after which we will send you full enrolment details.
We lend uniform and shoes for one taster class.

If you decide to enrol then you will be sent details for the appropriate uniform, which can be purchased from our online supplier or via our secondhand group.
We require all weekday Preschool, Reception, Yr1 & Yr2 classes to have a parent remain on site. Except for Saturdays, when we escort them on any toilet runs and between their classes.

All children of only 3 yrs must have a parent remain onsite. There is a comfortable cafe area to enjoy, and you are simply asked to make a small purchase.
We do not allow parents into taster classes.

Some classes you are able to view a little through the window, but we do provide 'watching week' opportunities in most terms and will let you know when the next one is coming up.
